摘要
Exploring natural antimicrobials in pharmaceutical and food industries has recently become popular, due to its increased demand, safety, and efficacy. Postbiotics are soluble bioactive metabolites that are synthesized by probiotic bacteria like Lactobacillus, which improve the host’s biological activity and specific physiological effects. Postbiotics have beneficial effects on diabetes-related retinopathy, low cholesterolemic, antimicrobial, antagonistic adiposity, contrast hypertension, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. Probiotic strains must primarily show antimicrobial efficacy against toxic, pathogenic, and saprophytic microbes. Since all postbiotics are strain-specific, different methods like Spot assays, Agar well diffusion, disc diffusion, and microbroth dilution (MIC and MBC) are employed to test the potential antibacterial activity of postbiotics. As a result, several techniques are being used and developed to examine the antibacterial activity of potential postbiotics. In this chapter, the methods of examination for each of the stated ways will be discussed, clarified, and the data gathered will be analyzed.
