Abstract Ki.ri.ti.ma.ti.el'la. N.L. fem. dim. n. Kiritimatiella , pertaining to the Kiritimati Atoll, the geographical origin of the type strain of the type species. Kiritimatiellota / Kiritimatiellia / Kiritimatiellales / Kiritimatiellaceae / Kiritimatiella Members of this genus are represented by free‐living, unpigmented, nonmotile, and non‐spore‐forming coccoid cells that divide by binary fission. Intracellular membranes are not formed. Gram‐negative type of cell wall with a peptidoglycan layer. Major cellular fatty acids are iso‐C 14:0 and C 18:0 . Odd‐numbered cellular fatty acids, respiratory lipoquinones, or cytochromes are not detected in significant amounts. The polar lipid composition is dominated by phosphatidylglycerol. Tests for catalase and oxidase are negative. Nitrate is not reduced. Obligately anaerobic, moderately halophilic, mesophilic, and neutrophilic. Strictly fermentative metabolism with sugars as preferred substrates. Yeast extract or vitamins are not required for growth. Members of the class Kiritimatiellia , order Kiritimatiellales , family Kiritimatiellaceae . Known habitats are microbial mats in salt lakes and evaporation ponds. DNA G + C content (mol%) : 63 (genome analysis). Type species : Kiritimatiella glycovorans Spring et al. 2016, VL174.
