A Miniaturized Metamaterial Klystron for Accelerator Application

In this paper, a miniaturized metamaterial (MTM) klystron at P-band is investigated. The electromagnetic characteristics of the MTM resonant cavity are analyzed, and the radius is smaller than the conventional counterparts due to the subwavelength characteristic of the MTM. The beam-wave interaction is performed on the MTM klystron constructed by MTM resonant cavities. The simulation results show that when the beam voltage and current are 100 kV and 40 A, respectively, the output power of the klystron reaches 2.12 MW at 714 MHz, corresponding to an electronic efficiency of 53% and a saturation gain of 42 dB. The high-frequency structure of the MTM klystron is 0.6 in radius and 0.9 in length of the conventional klystron, which can be used in proton linear accelerator application to solve problems of large volume and heavy weight.
