Study of a 0.67 THz TWT Based on Slotted Quasi Sine Waveguide

A 670 GHz slotted quasi sine waveguide (S-QSWG) slow wave structure (SWS) has been designed and simulated in this article. The high frequency characteristics, transmission characteristic and beam-wave interaction are simulated by CST STUDIO SUITE software. A two-section circuit is proposed and the cold simulation result shows the reflection loss is less than -15 dB in the frequency range of 658–698 GHz. Results of beam-wave interaction demonstrates the circuit can produce maximum output power of 1.9 W at 670 GHz with operating voltage of 24.1 kV, operating current of 17 mA and input power of 3 mW, the corresponding maximum gain at 670 GHz is 28 dB.
