Design of a Ku-band Traveling-Wave Tube Based on Optimization Design Tool

In this paper, the pitch profile of a traveling-wave tube (TWT) at Ku-band is designed by using the multiobjective optimization design tool. The simulation indicators of the TWT require that the output power reaches 220W (the electronic efficiency reaches 39%) and the power variation is less than 5W over the operating band. The phase distortion should be less than 45 degrees at the same time. By using the optimization design tool, the optimized solutions achieve all the design objectives through eight hours of automatic optimization. Then, the final design scheme is obtained by selecting the scheme with lower power variation.
