A Frequency Reconfigurable Reflection-Type Phase Shifter for Multi-Band 5G Communication

This paper presents a novel frequency reconfigurable reflection-type phase shifter based on the reconfigurable transformer-based hybrid coupler and switch-controlled capacitors loads. The designed RTPS can work at 28GHz and 38GHz and can be applied at n257 (26.5-29.5GHz) and n260 (37-40GHz) bands. This RTPS is implemented in 40nm CMOS technology, provides a 61.875° phase shift range in both bands with only 0.028 mm 2 chip size. The post-layout simulation results show that the RMS phase error are less than 0.7° and 1o at n257 and n260 band. The return loss and insertion loss variation are less than -12dB and 0.3dB at both operation band. Meanwhile, this reconfigurable RTPS can also realize less than 2° RMS phase error from 22 to 45GHz.
