Optimizing Method for the Scheduling of Cascade Hydro-Electric Power Energy Storage System for Peak Regulation across Multiple Regional Grids

Southwest China boasts an abundant supply of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydro-power. However, the widespread adoption of these energy sources in the region requires a well-coordinated power transmission system to efficiently distribute the energy from west to east. Currently, the lack of regulation technologies to manage these renewable resources hinders their full integration into the power grid. This paper proposes a peak management coordination method to optimize the utilization of cascade hydropower energy storage system. The method considers the complex load demands of different regional grids and uses the Variance of Remaining Load Series (VRLS) as its objective. The proposed model also takes into account constraints such as the capacity of cascade hydropower plants, load characteristics of various provincial grids, capacity of ultra-high voltage DC transmission lines, and other security considerations. Simulation results show that the proposed method effectively increases the utilization of renewables in Southwest China while meeting peak energy demands in multiple provincial grids.
