8 samples within the composition range Mn (52.5–60) Al (31.5–47.5) Ga (0–11.5) were heat treated into the τ-MnAl phase in order to assess the impact of Ga-doping on critical magnetic variables defined by J.M.D Coey in "Permanent magnets: plugging the gap" and determine suitability for further development in order to see industrial applications. Ga-doping was seen to increase observed M S and affect k uniaxial such that all but one composition could theoretically meet BH Max requirements for Type A Gap Magnets and thus warrant further development to increase observed values of M R and H C .
