Self-Decoupled Dual Band PIFA for Wi-Fi 6E Smartwatch MIMO Applications

In this paper, dual-band multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) planar inverted-F antennas (PIFA) based on self-decoupling is proposed for smartwatch applications. The antenna is fed by a loop-type feeding structures that excites the ground plane of smartwatch operating at Wi-Fi 6e bands (2.4-2.49 GHz and 5.925-7.125 GHz). The MIMO antenna is designed by placing the antenna elements at the orthogonal sides of the ground plane. Fabrication of the proposed dual-band antenna system is carried out and measured -6 dB impedance of both antenna is more than 180 MHz and 1.5 GHz for lower and higher frequency band, respectively. Measured isolation lower than -17 dB in both operating bands. Proposed antenna system exhibits good potential for Wi-Fi 6E smartwatch MIMO applications due to its compactness, simple structure, tunability and self-decoupling.
