Broadband Proximity Coupled Antenna for IoT Applications

The paper presents a new proximity couped antenna for IoT (Internet of things) based devices with dual radiators and inverted L-shaped feed line. For realizing broad impedance bandwidth in the proposed antenna, a V-shaped slot is etched in the radiator and a parasitic patch is introduced. Dual radiating element with coupled feed line helps to attain the bandwidth of 220 MHz from (2.37 to 2.59 GHz) which is suitable for Ingenu-RPMA, Bluetooth and ISM band (2.4–2.4835 GHz). Antenna can be employed with different IoT based platforms with stable impedance and radiation characteristics. Besides free space antenna is placed on three different materials on muscle tissue for wearable devices, glass and wood surfaces for IoT applications. Slight deviation of 30 MHz is observed which is tolerated by the broad spectrum of antenna. Radiation pattern is also robust in both the E-plane and H-plane with maximum gain of 6.37 dBi on muscle tissue and minimum of 4.47 dBi on glass surface. SAR (specific absorption rate) is required for safety of human tissues from electromagnetic radiations is 0.326W/kg. The designed proximity coupled dual radiator antenna is small size, and easily integrable with different IoT based objects.
