Market-based control is a widely used concept for controlling complex systems that are difficult to control and maintain. It has applications in a wide variety of power systems. This paper focuses on the challenges of applying market-based control algorithm to power-electronics-based power distribution systems. Root-finding methods have been used to solve the market clearing problem in simple power systems. Results for different arrangements of simple power systems under different scenarios and a notional MVDC system have been illustrated to explain the computational challenges of solving such problems.
