A Two-Stage Planning Model to Optimize Flexible Resources from Demand Side

With a larger scale of renewable energy connected to the power system, lack of regulation capacity becomes a serious problem for generation expansion planners. Flexible resources from the supply side and demand side arouse great interest. In this paper, a two-stage generation expansion planning model considering the impacts of demand response is established to study how resources from the demand side optimize the planning scheme. A case study based on XJTU-ROTS2017 is introduced to verify the efficiency of the model. And three cases are set to compare optimal results which show that with the implementation of demand response, the expansion capacity of conventional power sources can be reduced to some degree and the load curve can be modified. Based on the comparison among four cases, the importance of calling on large-scale, regular demand response participation can be concluded.
