Guaranteed 1ms/0.1ms transmission for FTTR Q-Band Network by FDD TDMA MAC design

By taking advantages of radio isolation between rooms in millimeter wave (mmWave) bands and the unlimited back-haul capability of fiber, the combination of Q-Band mmWave communication and the Fiber-to-the-Room (FTTR) solution is promising to build a high data rate and reliable network for smart home applications. This solution builds a perfect matching solution to overcome the shortcoming of mmWave on indoor signal coverage. To release the power of large bandwidth of mmWave further, this paper proposes a novel Frequency-Division Duplexing (FDD) MAC mechanism to achieve lower transmission latency than contention-based protocols. Furthermore, in order to establish guaranteed latency, Time Division Multiple Address (TDMA) technology is adopted, while an assisted beam alignment method by Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) estimation is also provided. Simulation results show the benefits of the new MAC well.
