Sequential Phase Feeding Method for Phased Array Based on Approximate Linear Model

In order to reduce the beam pointing error of the planar phased array antenna caused by quantization error in digital phase shifter, a phase feeding method based on sequential phase feeding calculation and approximate linear model is derived in this paper. Firstly, this method uses an approximate linear model between the phase feeding error of each array element and the beam pointing error. Based on the approximate linear model, the phase feeding value of each array element is determined sequentially on the principle of minimizing the accumulated beam pointing error of the pre-calculated array elements. Simulation results show that the beam pointing error is generally less than 0.01° for a planar phase array with 328 elements.
