To solve the peak regulation (PR) problem under the vision of future high-proportion renewable energy (RE) power system, in this paper, a coordinated planning method of multi-type power source and energy storage for improving system PR capacity is proposed. Firstly, a general framework for power source optimization planning based on the quantitative assessment of PR capacity is proposed. Secondly, the PR capacity index is introduced to quantitatively evaluate the system capacity for PR and included in the planning model as an optimization decision variable. Next, a high proportion RE power planning model is established to minimize the investment cost of the whole cycle. Finally, by taking the 2050 long-term planning of a provincial power grid in southwest China as an example, the validity of the proposed model and strategy is verified in the MATLAB environment.
