Active Balancing Strategy for AUV Multi-Battery Packs

This paper proposed an active balancing strategy to the problem of overheating caused by an imbalance in the output of parallel battery packs in the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) energy system. To achieve this, a loss function that includes both State of Charge (SOC) and temperature consistency is constructed. The control signals for optimal output between parallel battery packs is then optimized and calculated. This calculated signals are then used to control the switch matrix in the topology circuit, which balances the output of multiple battery packs. In addition, we also discussed the influence of SOC consistency and temperature consistency weight coefficients on the active balancing performance of battery packs. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified based on a simulation system under different propulsion powers. The experimental results show that compared to a non-balancing strategy, the proposed method reduces the maximum temperature of parallel battery packs by 18.61% while increasing temperature consistency by 92.50%, all while maintaining SOC balancing.
