Molecular cloning and heterologous expression analysis of 1-Deoxy-D-Xylulose-5-Phosphate Synthase gene in Centella asiatica L.

•Gene DXS were mined out from transcriptome data of Centella asiatica, cloned and transformed the E.coli DH5α.•CaDXṢ protein was heterologously expressed and followed by its catalytic and biochemical characterization.•In silico studies were performed to determine the physicochemical properties, 3D structure, and evolutionary relationship.•Differential tissue expression showed the expression of the gene in different tissues of the plant.•Finally, the importance of the DXS gene was validated by the functional complementation test.
