•Aviptadil is a synthetic Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) that has been studied in respiratory disease conditions.•Aviptadil is used for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), acute lung injury, pulmonary hypertension and sarcoidosis.•A group of practising pulmonologists highlighted the use of Aviptadil as a promising treatment option in ARDS.
