Weakly solvated electrolytes conducive to uniform lithium deposition

The cycling behavior of lithium metal batteries (LMBs) largely is dependent on the electrolyte. This is closely related with the uniformity of the Li deposition. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the relationship between the Li deposition behavior and the electrolyte properties. Recently, Cui's group found that electrolytes with weak solvation were more profit for the uniform Li deposition for battery cycling. They linked the deposition kinetics of Li metal with electrolytes, and revealed the mechanism of electrolytes affecting the Li deposition morphologies. This work provides us novel insights on exploring functional electrolytes, manipulating battery kinetics, and elucidating favorable uniform Li deposition by weakly soluble fluorinated electrolytes.
