Strain and charge doping effect in MoS2 sheets decorated with AgFeO2 particles

The presence of local strain in two-dimensional (2D) materials can alter its properties drastically. When the surface of 2D materials is decorated with some other nanomaterials, local strain develops at the surface which can give rise to synergetic effects. Present study is focused on the explanation of this local strain induced phenomenon observed in 2D materials. In this work, we investigate the evolution of local strain and charge doping in MoS2 decorated with silver ferrite (AgFeO2) particles using Raman spectroscopy. MoS2:AgFeO2 (M:A) samples were fabricated by adding different amount of AgFeO2 particles in MoS2 sheets. The local strain and charge doping for M:A samples were estimated from the observed shifts in the Raman active modes of MoS2, that is, E-2g(1) (similar to 383.1 cm(-1)) and A(1g )(similar to 408.1 cm(-1)). M:A samples also exhibit magnified enhancement in the intensity of E-2g(1) and A(1g) modes as compared with bare MoS2. These findings present a new pathway towards engineering surface properties of MoS2.
