11-13.6 GHz Wideband Compact High Gain MMIC Amplifier for Radar Application

This paper describes the design, development and measurement results of wideband and high gain compact monolithic microwave integrated circuit amplifier for Ku-band applications. The MMIC fabricated on 0.25 mu m GaAs p-HEMT technology, is a two-stage common source design where negative feedback is used to achieve wideband performance. The proposed amplifier demonstrates minimum gain of 24 dB with gain flatness of less than +/- 0.5dB over the entire frequency band of operation. The MMIC amplifier consumes only 252mW of power and has an option of bias distribution on two opposite sides of circuit for integration ease. The compact amplifier fits into 3mm x 2.6mm x 0.1mm of small formfactor.
