A Bi-Objective Optimization Method to Minimize The Makespan and Energy Consumption On Parallel SLM Machines.

The scheduling problem in additive manufacturing system has attracted attentions in recent years. Most concern the productivity objective, only a few have considered the scheduling impact on machine energy consumption and hence, the potential of energy-saving without sacrificing productivity is still not clear. To investigate this, we address the bi-objective scheduling problem in parallel selective laser melting (SLM) machines to minimize the total energy consumption and makespan. The nesting and scheduling decisions are jointly considered. We present a mixed integer linear programming model, and propose an epsilon constraint approach to obtain the Pareto-optimal front. The properties of the problem are investigated by numerical experiments, and some insights are provided.
