Impulse Aging Characteristics of ZnO Blocks under Multiple Strokes

ZnO blocks as the core component of ZnO arrester, its performance is directly related to the serviceability of the arrester. Multiple strokes as a common thundercloud discharge phenomenon, which will significantly accelerate the aging performance of the arrester. This paper investigated the impulse degradation characteristics of the electrical parameters of the arrester under multiple strokes. Firstly, the multiple strokes aging platform was built and the experiments of multiple strokes ZnO block were carried out. The DC parameters were then tested. Moreover, the degeneration variability of the DC parameters of the ZnO blocks under different multiple strokes was analyzed. Finally, the damage form of ZnO blocks under lightning strike and multiple strokes is analyzed. The research results in this paper can provide a foundation for exploring the impulse aging mechanism of ZnO blocks under multiple strokes.
