摘要
•We evaluate a de-escalation training program using methods that tap into alternative outcomes in encounters that did not involve use of force.•We conducted phone surveys with Tempe community members who had a recent encounter with an officer.•We examined body-worn camera footage of randomly selected encounters that occurred and post-training.•Citizens reported trained officers were more likely to use procedural justice and de-escalation.•Citizens who interacted with trained officers reported greater satisfaction with their treatment. Use of force as a singular metric of a de-escalation training effect is too narrow.
