Challenges in Modeling and Controlling WDM Transmission in Multiband Optical Networks

Multi-band optical transport is an already deployed technology aimed at enhancing network capacity through the utilization of existing cable installations. In parallel, the evolution towards open and disaggregated networking is actively underway, seeking to establish a multi-vendor optical infrastructure that can be leveraged as a service by multiple operators. The intricacies of multi-band optical line control present significant challenges due to inter-band effects. This work introduces a novel and efficient closed-form approximation for optimizing the gain and tilt of amplifiers in a band-separated manner. The efficacy of this approach is demonstrated by comparing it against the joint multi-band optimization.
