•SARS-CoV-2 is a retrovirus causing COVID-19.•Virions encode non-structural proteins (NSPs) for viral life cycle & pathogenesis.•MDCA binds NSPs with stable hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions.•Such interactions could impede functional activities of NSPs.•MDCA can be a potential drug candidate to curb COVID-19.
