Refractive Lens Exchange in High Myopia

Refractive lens exchange (RLE) has been shown to be an effective approach for treating ametropia and presbyopia in a wide range of refractive errors (Alfonso et al. J Refract Surg. 26(12):927–933, 2010; Schallhorn et al. Clin Ophthalmol. 11:1569–1181, 2017;Schallhorn et al. J Refract Surg. 36(3):175–84, 2020).Myopia, and particularly high myopia, presents a unique set of challenges when considering RLE. This chapter will address the preoperative and postoperative considerations as well as surgical planning for RLE in patients with high myopia.
