Synthesis, characterization, and optical properties of ROMP copolymers with pendant carbazole and coumarin groups

•Fluorescent copolymers containing two distinct fluorophore groups in the side chains are synthesized by ROMP.•Random copolymers exhibit effective intra- and intermolecular energy transfer from the donor carbazole group to the acceptor coumarin group.•Control of copolymer composition and architecture is an essential factor to fine-tuning fluorescence emission properties.
