Design of an Arc-Shaped Slot Circular Patch Antenna for 5G Applications

This article presents an arc-shaped slot Circular Patch Antenna (CPA) suitable for 5G communications. The antenna is fed by coaxial probe feed and has a resonant frequency of 2.35 GHz, 2.59 GHz, and 3.36 GHz. The simulation is conducted using the HFSS software. The CPA has a substrate of 54.96 mm length and width, and a radiating patch with a radius of 17.88 mm. The antenna demonstrated good S 11 characteristic and impedance matching, with an S 11 value of −30.21 dB, −24.26 dB, and −16.09 dB with a gain of 0.47 dB, 4.92 dB, 1.07 dB respectively covering 2.3, 2.5, 3.3 GHz frequency band and an efficiency of 47%, 96%, 40%. The VSWR is almost ideal 1.06, 1.14, 1.37 and antenna provides a bandwidth of 60 MHz, 30 MHz, and 100 MHz for the above frequency bands to evaluate its suitability in 5G applications.
