Joint Angle and Velocity Estimation in an Extended Velocity Unambiguity for TDM MIMO Radars

The reduction of the velocity unambiguity range is a major drawback of TDM MIMO radars. In this paper, we present a new method for adapting TDM schemes and an algorithm based on it that enables a velocity unambiguity range multiple times larger than that of a corresponding SIMO radar with equidistant chirps of the same duration as the chirps of the TDM MIMO radar. In simulations and measurements, we demonstrate the correct estimation of target velocities up to ±80 m/s , which corresponds to four times the SIMO unambiguity.
