•Storm events enhance the transfer of trace metals into submarine canyons.•Trace metals in particle fluxes are associated to lithogenic and authigenic phases.•Trace metal relative contents diminish in storm-triggered particle fluxes.•Resuspension by trawling alters the distribution of metals in fluxes and sediments.•Anthropogenically sourced Cu and Zn reach the outer continental margin.
