Boosting protonation kinetics for ammonia electrosynthesis on Ru sites embedded in nanoporous ReSe2

We synthesized a highly efficient electrocatalyst fornitrogen reduction reactionby introducing Ru onto nanoporous ReSe2 with controlledselenium vacancies. The resulting catalystexhibits an NH3 yield rate of 19.41 µg/h mg−1 and a Faradaic efficiency of 22.7%, outperforming most reported 2D-based catalysts. In situ attenuated total reflectance–surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy studies combined with the theoretical calculations reveal that the synergistic effect of Ru atoms and Se vacancies on Ru doped nanoporous ReSe2 promotes NNR kinetics.
