Neural indices of multimodal sensory and autonomic hyperexcitability in fibromyalgia

•Central and peripheral sympathetic activity were measured during a multisensory task.•Greater P50 to electrocutaneous stimuli correlated with FM-related symptoms.•Tone-evoked N100 and electrodermal activity were enhanced in FM participants.•Results support generalized neural hyperexcitability in association with FM symptoms.•Gabapentinoids reduced hyperexcitability, confirming excitation dominance in FM.
