Superior temperature sensitive luminescent properties of BaY2Al2Ga2GeO12:Bi3+

The development of efficient temperature-sensitive materials is of paramount importance. In this study, BaY2Al2Ga2GeO12:Bi3+ (BYAGGO) phosphors were prepared in the air by a conventional solid-phase method. BYAGGO:Bi3+ phosphor has two distinct emissions at 316 and 450 nm. According to the crystal field calculation result, the 316 nm emission is attributed to Bi3+ occupying the octahedral central lattice, while the 450 nm emission is to Bi3+ occupying the dodecahedral central lattice. As an optical temperature sensing material, the BYAGGO:0.03Bi3+ phosphor has excellent temperature sensitivity between 298 and 473 K with a relative sensitivity of 1.44 % K-1 at 423 K. The remarkable temperature sensitivity of BYAGGO:Bi3+ phosphor makes it a promising candidate for applications in non-contact temperature sensing devices.
