•Qualitative results show consumers are receptive to blended meat products.•Vegetables are a desirable ingredient for blended beef burgers.•Non-Asian consumers gave lower desirability scores for nutrition claims than Asians.•Asians were less informed on ingredients and nutrition claims then non-Asians.•This preliminary study indicates considerable market opportunity for blended beef burgers.
