•N was successfully integrated into the Li5.5PS4.5Cl1.5 structure with better lithium metal stability.•The mechanism of Dual N-modification is demonstrated and discussed.•The SEI growth of Li/Electrolyte under different conditions was simulated by COMSOL software.•All-solid-state lithium metal batteries showing much higher capacities and superior cyclability.
