Bipolar disorder in youth: what every clinician needs to know

There has been considerable emphasis on the topic of irritability in recent years and distinguishing chronic irritability from bipolar disorder in youth. This Institute has as its goal refocusing back on the condition that initiated our concern about mania, hypomania, and risk for developing bipolar disorder. The goals of the Institute are that the attendee will be able to distinguish mania from other conditions with which it is both confused and comorbid; to describe the biologic, family, and genetic context of bipolar disorder in youth; and ultimately to have an understanding of the complexities of predicting outcome and what kinds of treatment can impact outcome.
