Evolving topics in tourettes disorder

Chronic tic disorders (CTD), including Tourette’s disorder (TD), are childhood-onset neuropsychiatric disorders characterized by tics. Although our gold-standard treatment approaches have remained similar for the last 2 decades, our knowledge base continues to evolve. Areas of increased understanding include the association between natal sex and one’s TD symptom profile, how one’s clinical profile changes with age, the differences between “Tourettic” tics and functional tic-like behaviors, how the implicated neurocircuitry associates with various disruptive behavioral symptoms, and new nonpharmacological approaches to treatment.
