•Increase of SHG signal of Co-tetraphenylporphirinate under a 1.907 μm pulsed laser radiation.•Theoretical calculations on CoTPP fragments simulate appropriately the SHG responses.•The enhancement of the SHG signal is imputable to an electronic or spin transition.
