Implementation of a Collision Avoidance System for Machine Tennis Game.

Recently, wheelchair tennis has gained worldwide recognition as one of the Paralympic sports. The number of wheelchair tennis players has been increasing year by year and various competitions are held to improve players’ skills around the world. However, the wheelchair tennis is a very challenging sport as players require sophisticated techniques and strength to control the wheelchair. This can be particularly burdensome for beginners or children. In this paper, we consider Omnidirectional Wheelchair Robot for Machine Tennis, which can provide an easy playing environment because it can move in any direction. We propose a collision avoidance system to ensure a safe playing environment. We measured by experiments the position detection accuracy of the proposed system. The experimental results show that the system accuracy was about 93%.
