Gastroptosis in a young woman

A 34-year-old woman with a low BMI (17.1kg/m 2 ) presented with chronic postprandial epigastric pain and shortness of breath.Symptoms were exacerbated by both liquid and solid meals and relieved by abdominal contractions and standing upright.Upper endoscopy showed slightly elongated body of the stomach and reduced distensibility with air.Access to the pylorus had a j shape stomach appearance (A).and ultrasound were unremarkable.Gastric emptying scintigraphy was positive for 37% retention at 240 minutes.Upper gastrointestinal series with barium demonstrated gastroptosis (B), which is a downward displacement of the stomach where the greater curvature is dislocated below the iliac crest while the antrum remains in its usual position.Treatments include abdominal banding and physiotherapy focused on abdominal and paraspinal muscle strengthening.Patient was referred and pending therapy at the time of follow-up.
