Study of EMI Shielding Performance of CNT-filled Epoxy Resin

With the increased demand for multifunctional carbon-based composite materials in the aeronautical industry, there is a need for developing advanced nanostructured composites with superior electrical and mechanical properties. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are a viable filler ingredient for polymer-based nanocomposites because of their high aspect ratio and outstanding electrical conductivity. Electrical conductivity is a major factor in the feasibility of CNT-polymer-based nanocomposite for electromagnetic shielding. A material’s ability to effectively block an electromagnetic field is measured by its shielding effectiveness (SE). The electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI-SE) of CNT-epoxy nanocomposite in X-band (8–12 GHz) frequency is investigated experimentally in this work. The electrical conductivity of the nanocomposite is measured. The study is performed with different filler loading varying from 0.05 wt% to 3 wt%.
