Adaptive Networking at the Tactical Edge

Combat ICT systems are continually being improved. More efficient use of communications resources may lead to more effective military operations. In this paper, we look at a combination of technologies that enable distributed information exchange, and we have demonstrated this using a distributed command post scenario. We have built a software demonstration leveraging off-the-shelf hardware, showcasing how we can realize policy routing across a mixture of military and civilian carriers. Further, we have deployed adaptive user-facing services, that through cross-layer optimization can react and adapt to underlying network changes. Our demonstration has shown that we can sustain adaptable service quality across frequent network changes, even including a mixture of stationary and mobile command post nodes.
