Modified Minkowski fractal shaped metamaterial absorber for THz Sensing and Detection Systems

This work introduces a graphene-based metasurface absorber with a fractal shape for the THz range application. A modified Minkowski fractal structure of the graphene layer was deposited over the $\mathrm{A}1_{2}\mathrm{O}_{3}$ (dielectric) substrate with a metal (Au) bottom plate structure realized for the proposed Minkowski fractal-shaped metasurface absorber. For the normal incidence, absorbance is polarizationindependent. The absorber's effectiveness is analyzed for different Fermi potentials, scattering rates, and incident angle variations. The frequency range from 7.07 THz and 7.89 THz has been achieved to have over 90% absorption, resulting in an absorber bandwidth of 0.82 THz. This fractal shape of the modified Minkowski carpet absorber can be used in high data rate sensing and detection systems.
