•Over 10,000 angiosperm species were used for antihypertensive potential evaluation.•A large heterogeneity of antihypertensive potential among angiosperms was noted.•RuBisCO-derived VPCL, TTVW, and TMW showed strong in vitro ACE inhibitory activity.•A vast reservoir of antihypertensive peptides is concealed beneath plant RuBisCO.
