•Combination of SFCB and FRP tie is a durable and ductile reinforcement scheme.•Axial-flexural performance of columns reinforced by SFCBs and FRP ties is studied.•Post-yielding stiffness of SFCB leads to better axial-flexural behavior of columns.•Theoretical prediction model of failure mode and interaction diagram is developed.
