Insights from molecular dynamics into the chemistry-structure relationships of calcium aluminosilicate glasses

•Theoretical models overestimate BO and underestimate NBO in partially depolymerized glasses.•The silica-alumina ratio impacts the coordination state of calcium.•Calcium aluminosilicate glasses violate Lowenstein's rule.•A sharp topological transition to a disconnected graph is observed with calcium increase.
