Three-dimensional light field fusion display system and coding scheme for extending depth of field

•In order to extend the DOF of light field display without affecting other viewing indicators, a 3D light field fusion display system is proposed.•Through the analysis of the physical process of voxel superposition, a coding scheme which can make the contents of light field display fuse correctly is completed.•The structural parameters of the system and the parameters of optical elements have been designed and a prototype has been developed.•The comparison of experimental images shows that the proposed system can significantly improve the display effect of 3D scenes with large DOF.
