Evidence-based nutrition of preterm infants

For every newborn and especially for premature infants the nutrition with breast milk contributes to the reduction of morbidity and mortality and strengthens bonding between the mother (parent) and child. Perinatal centres have to make every effort to support parents on the way to successful lactation. It is important to encourage them to take part in the whole care of their infant. This empowerment helps to improve the infant's outcome. Human milk banks can be a valuable support in this process.
