Association between symptom severity and medication adherence in adolescents and young adults with bipolar disorder demonstrating suboptimal adherence

While medication nonadherence is common among individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) and associated with relapse and suicide, few studies have assessed symptom expression in nonadherent adolescent and young adults (AYAs) with BD. We examined the relationship between BD symptoms and adherence in poorly adherent AYAs from an ongoing randomized controlled trial testing a novel behavioral intervention to optimize adherence.
